A Bliss Escapade In Himalayas

My Ganga exploration spree took me to unusual treks in the Himalayas this time. Redefining yatra between Yamunotri and Gangotri valleys in the Himalayas.

To trek the ancient route, the way people did in earlier times. Also, to explore the abode of river Yamuna, the longest tributary of holy Ganga.

I engaged one local experienced trek guide Sudarshan Parmar and his assistant Bharat for all treks. Chalked out details.Trek commenced from Janaki Chatti, a small town near Yamunotri. Camping was done above Yamunotri temple to traverse the higher reaches of Yamunotri.

Manoeuvring through streams, waterfall and dense jungle, it was an exhilarating affair.

Trek between Yamunotri valley and Gangotri valley was tricky. Route was planned from Hanuman Chatti, Yamunotri to Uprikot, Uttarkashi. Camping planned at meadows along the route. Few trek guides were conversant with the route from Hanuman Chatti until atop the ridge to Dhinara pass but no one was accustomed with the route from Dhinara pass to Uttarkashi. A big challenge well accepted by my trek guide.

Spectacular vistas.

From Hanuman Chatti till Dhinara pass, the route was scenic. A treat to eyes. Reinvigorating and rejuvenating. Most striking part was Dhinara bugyal. Vast green pastures dotted with lakes and streams. Mesmerizing beauty to behold. And a popular camping site for trekkers.

Delicious berries to relish.

Stepping on the ridge, with splendor of Gangotri valley on one side and grandeur of Yamunotri valley on other side, was magical. In form and in feel, the ridge at Dhinara pass captivated me. But weather turned unkind. Miraculously a small patch where I stood illuminated with golden light. Sudden appearance of a rainbow embellished the horizon. I was spellbound with the spectacle of lights. But soon after again got trapped in rough weather yet kept walking miles and miles on the ridge until the end point.

Entering Gangotri valley from the ridge was an emotional moment. Route crafted through Karsu bugyal amidst dense forest of Kharsu trees throughout. Destination was Uprikot village in Uttarkashi. After a whole day of forest trek I got a glimpse of terrace fields. Potato harvesting in full swing.

Villagers were very enthusiastic about meeting me when I descended in Uttarkashi. And so was I, seeing the successful culmination of my difficult journey.

It’s all about courage to do something beyond the ordinary…
