Historic Gems Of Jabalpur

Home to many ancient monuments and important landmarks, Jabalpur has a rich history dating back to 10th century. In this post I am talking about three  historic gems of Jabalpur which impressed me most.

Built in the 10th century, Chausath Yogini Temple is believed to be the largest yogini temple in India. Temple has a circular building with peripheral chapels housing intricately carved images of 64 yoginis. Situated on a hilltop, this architectural marvel can be approached by a wide flight of stairs.

Surrounded by picturesque hillocks, the balancing rock is an absolute delight to watch. This miraculous formation has withstood earthquakes and storms but nothing could disturb the equilibrium of the rock. I kept gazing at the delicate balance of the rock.

Nestled atop a hill, Madan Mahal also known as Rani Durgavati Fort, served as a military stronghold in the 11th century. Though presently in ruins, its magnificent architecture still commands admiration. Fort offers a sweeping view of the city.

My plenty of walking, climbing to access the historical sights of Jabalpur indeed rewarded me with awesome views and enriched my knowledge.
