Exploring ancient monuments and natural wonders while walking along the river Ganga gives me immense pleasure. In this post I am talking about these jewels of Sahibganj dist.
Moti Jharna
Moti Jharna is the most picturesque waterfall in Sahibganj dist. The water from a hill stream in Rajmahal hills tumbles over two ledges of rocks with each one around 60 ft high. Moti Jharna is a popular tourist spot. I was thrilled to trek to the source of this waterfall in the hills with awesome views to cherish. Also met some villagers who live in the hills.

Udhwa Lake Bird Sanctuary
Udhwa lake has been recently added as a Ramsar site, a wetland of international significance. This is the only Ramsar Site in Jharkhand. During my Ganga walks in Sahibganj dist, I walked to Udhwa site as well. This site comprises two interconnected wetlands, Pataura lake and Barhel lake which are surrounded by the hillocks of the Rajmahal hills and linked by a channel to the Ganga river. In 2016, Udhwa lake site was designated as a bird sanctuary.

Ruins of Baradari and Jami Masjid
Imposing sites of Baradari and Jami Masjid impressed me profoundly.
Baradari- Built on a high ground the building consists of an immense wall of bricks of about 9 meter height. Presently, the remains of the wall measure 5 meter. There is a gate at one corner of the enclosure with provision for the guard rooms. A row of apartments runs through the inner walls, each consists of a small open court meant for women and their female attendants. There is a common arched gallery in front of all these apartments facing the interior court. Most likely this baradari was built by Mir Kasim Ali or Fateh Jung Khan.
Jami Masjid- This mosque was built in the 16th century by Raja Man Singh, the governor of emperor Akbar. It is situated on a high land called Hadaf. The mosque consists of a large prayer hall and a spacious courtyard enclosed by a high compound wall with arched recesses on its inner side.

Singhi Dalan
Singhi Dalan is a protected ancient monument. This marble pavilion is part of a big palace probably erected by Raja Man Singh, the viceroy of king Akbar or by the Mughal prince Shah Suja, son of ruler Shah Jahan.
