Heavenly Kahalgaon

Pious Ganga. Mesmerizing panorama. And the dolphins dancing all around me…such moments of ecstasy I will cherish for life.

When I walk along the Ganga river in different states, I notice everything that revolves around her. I explore the unique landscape and the heritage. Kahalgaon is very special for the unparalleled vistas it offers.

Three rocky islands in the midst of the sacred river Ganga in Kahalgaon, India, offer a glorious view. I hired a boat to go to each of the three islands and experience life on these hilly islands. I found all the three islands imbued with spiritual aura. Sunset view was absolutely amazing.

I recount here a beautiful encounter that took my breath away. I was observing fishermen weaving their fishing nets. Suddenly I spotted a Ganges dolphin. I smiled. But that was not all. Several dolphins jumped around in quick succession as if teasing me. I was beaming.

Incidentally, Kahalgaon comes under the Vikramshila Gangetic Dolphin Sanctuary. The sanctuary covers a 60 km stretch from Sultanganj to Kahalgaon. It is estimated that half of total Gangetic dolphins are found here.

I kept walking farther through a trail lined with palm trees. Saw the process of palm tree sap extraction.
