Beach City Mandvi

Mandvi is popular for its expansive shoreline and soft sandy beaches. Its blue waters with massive windmills in the backdrop look so inviting.

Some people have fun time with camel and horse riding along the shore. While others simply soak up the sun on the picturesque Mandvi beach. I enjoyed my barefoot walk in crystal clear waters.

Spectacular Mandvi beach

Apart from tranquil beaches of Mandvi, another major attraction of the city is the Vijay Vilas Palace, a royal abode. The palace was built in 1920, during the reign of Maharao Khengarji III, as a summer retreat for the prince Vijayaraji. This is an architectural marvel set in the middle of well curated gardens and marble fountains. Palace has its own private beach which offers air conditioned tented accommodation. Vijay Vilas Palace has also been used as a set in many Hindi films. Palace serves as a museum as well.

Once a significant port of the Kutch region, Mandvi was established by Maharao Khengarji I of Kutch, in 1580. Mandvi has a centuries old ship building industry which is still functional. Watching these ships being crafted is a treat to the eyes.

Mandvi has pleasant climate throughout the year.  There are many luxury resorts with private beaches on the outskirts of the city who impress tourists with attractive deals.

  1. I think I’d do both! Relax and soak up the sun with a long walk and also with camel or horseback riding! What a beautiful place and fun experience!
