With dedicated pathways for walkers throughout the city, Almaty vibes turned my walking into a joyous experience. Clean, green and pollution free Almaty, the largest city of Kazakhstan, is a walker’s paradise.
Here, I will specifically mention the Panfilov Park in central Almaty. Panfilov Park seamlessly combines history with nature. A place to remember the past and enjoy the present. Named after 28 brave soldiers known as Panfilov Guardsmen, this park honors these heroes who stood their ground to defend Moscow from German invasion during the 2nd World War. The Memorial of Glory with its eternal flame is a striking sight.
Panfilov Park houses several historical buildings such as Ascension Cathedral, Museum of Folk Musical Instruments and Military History Museum.
Ascension Cathedral is entirely built of wood without using any nails. Its remarkable architecture is earthquake resistant.
Panfilov park is very popular among locals as well as tourists. Children revel at Pigeon Square. Horse riding is another activity in the park that can engage the whole family.
Whether you are admiring the Ascension Cathedral, or walking through the Alley of Heroes, or reflecting at the Memorial of Glory, or delving into instruments at the Museum of Folk Musical Instruments, a sense of history permeates in each corner of the Panfilov Park.
I hiked Kok Tobe hill as well to get the panoramic view of Almaty. Kok Tobe is a recreational area which can be accessed by cable car, taxi, public transport or hiking.
No matter which country I travel, walking is an integral part of all my travels. Walking offers ample opportunity to mingle with locals, notwithstanding the language barrier.
Almaty looks like a gorgeous place. I love all the natural beauty and the statue was gorgeous, as well.
Indeed so.
The architecture and views are amazing. I would definitely love to visit Almaty one day.
You should make a plan.
Loving all the color, structures, and animals! I miss being in a place with more pigeons, so that was a delightful snapshot of Pigeon Square!
Thank you.
Great photos, I love the horse and cart and the trees! That is a great view also from the cable car. It certainly does look like Almaty is a great place for walking!
Indeed a walker’s paradise.
What a beautful place to visit, I must admit I do love anywhere that I can see a horse or two, and these definitely have me sold in wanting to go

It sounds like a perfect place to enjoy nature while teaching our kids about history. I can’t wait to add this to our travel bucket list!
Absolutely Lavanda.
This looks like such a big park to explore! I love the mix of nature areas and areas that have statues.
Huge one indeed. Houses museums too.
I didn’t know that Almaty was the largest city, it looks like you had a good time exploring.
Indeed Jenny.
