The holiest river Ganga takes shape in the Uttarakhand state of India. I have walked extensively in the Himalayas in previous years, exploring the landscape of pious Ganga and discovering ancient yatra routes in the mountains. Now, another trip to the Himalayas capturing the majestic landscapes and unique formations of Ganga on foot. Scenic walks in Harsil valley and the captivating treks along deep gorges in Gangotri region continue to amaze me.
Gangotri has the divine aura that pulls devotees and spiritual seekers in the heavenly realm of sacred river Ganga. Bhairon Ghati, in Gangotri neighbourhood, is a mysterious intersection of religious sanctity. Magnificence of the Surya waterfalls in Gangotri. Ganga cascades with a thunder into Surya Kund that creates an awe-inspiring spectacle. Rudra Ganga joins Bagirathi at Surya Kund. It is believed, Goddess Parvati bathed in Gauri Kund and worshipped Sun God in Surya Kund. Pandav Gufa close to Gangotri, holds significant relevance to the epic of Mahabharata. Here Rudra Ganga merges in Bhagirathi.
Harsil is a quaint Himalayan hamlet dotted with ancient structures surrounded by apple orchards, pine trees and snow clad mountains. Harsil is a popular tourist destination year round for hiking and other adventure activities. Harsil has Bollywood link too. Some parts of a famous movie Ram Teri Ganga Maili were filmed in Harsil.
