An island country in continent Africa, Mauritius enchanted me and made me feel unique. I found a smiling friendly face behind every encounter that I had during my trip to this fascinating country.
Magnificent waterfronts. Silvery beaches. Iconic cliffs. Historical sites. Picturesque villages. Nature hikes. And the cultural melting pot. I was all engrossed in the Mauritian charm.
A vibrant city where ancient meets the modern, Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius impressed me a lot. First thing that struck me was the Cauden waterfront. An imposing complex which houses entertainment center, museum, theatre, shops, restaurants and much more.
Perched on top of a hill, the majestic Adelaide Fort, built by Brits in 1834, offers panoramic views of the waterfront and the sprawling city.
A small village Chamarel needs a special mention for its 7 Colored Earth phenomenon. A geological activity that lends rainbow colors to earth. I was spellbound at the beauty and the science behind it. Fortunately weather was good that day and I could feel the brightness of colors. There is Chamarel waterfall and tortoise park as well in the vicinity.
Mauritian beaches are very inviting. All beaches are public with parking areas and toilets. In north, silvery beaches with calm waves are more preferred for day long relaxation. East part is more windy though boasts of many popular beaches. In south and west, sea waves are stronger and well suited for surfing. Le Morne beach in front of the Le Morne mountain is a picturesque picnic site.
Mauritius has an extensive network of roads and plenty of public transport. For my whole touring in Mauritius I used taxi and buses. And lots of walks as well. Being a country of multi ethnicities, several languages are spoken in Mauritius but English is widely understood. I had no problem conversing with locals. In fact many people tried to talk in Hindi, showing a sweet gesture the moment they knew I was from India. I met travelers from different countries as well. Mauritian warmth remains engraved in my memory.
These are all such pretty shots! Every time you post anything it makes me want to go exploring.
