Marvel Of Faith

Whenever I visit religious destinations of different faiths, all over the world, I submerge in the spiritual aura of that place. Same happened to me when I visited Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, the capital city of  United Arab Emirates.
I had read and heard lot about the splendor of Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Was so excited to visit here at the earliest and got this opportunity during my trip to Dubai. Hired taxi from Dubai to Abu Dhabi and inquisitive me kept on eliciting more details from driver throughout my journey. During this conversation I was also told that I  need to attire in appropriate dress to gain access to the deep interiors of the mosque. I may be given robe worn by Muslim women on returnable basis at mosque reception. This raised my curiosity further to see me in such outfit.
Flow of conversation broke with driver pulling car aside uttering that we have arrived. Swiftly I stepped out of car to catch a glimpse. And I was spellbound gazing at the grandeur of  Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Much like it happened when I visited iconic Taj Mahal in my home country. As I was already aware I was handed over one black robe covering me head to toe but face was fully visible.  Donned in the beautiful dress I explored whole mosque with the help of a guide who narrated me each bit of history linked to the creation of this incredible masterpiece.
Mosque got its name from the first president of UAE and the ruler of Abu Dhabi, the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. He is also known as the father of United Arab Emirates. He conceived the idea for this architectural marvel. The marvel of faith, indeed. After his death his body was buried in mosque courtyard.
The opulence of mosque is reflected in 82 white marble domes with 1,096 columns in exterior and 96 interior columns encrusted with semi precious jewels. Not to forget the 24-carat gold plated crystal chandeliers.
No wonder it holds three Guinness World Records for its biggest chandelier, its largest handwoven carpet and the unique dome.
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is not simply a place of worship but holds the distinction of being a star attraction of UAE. With the capacity of more than 40,000 people this mosque is one of the largest mosque in the world and it took twelve years to complete the construction.
This religious place is one the most photographed and most visited destination in the world. Any itinerary to Abu Dhabi is incomplete without a visit to Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
