Snorkeling In Great Barrier Reef

Again a dream. Me dreaming of snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, in Australia. Excited. When was that dream getting realized, did not know for sure, at that time. But I did nurture my dream and made it a reality.

After few months I happened to travel to Australia. While being there I made it a point to live my dream of snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland. And the day arrived, I was boarding catamaran for my Reef tour in Cairn. After an hour’s sail in scenic surroundings I was directed to a pontoon amidst beautiful cluster of Ribbon Reefs. Ribbon Reefs are strings of individual coral reefs that form outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef.

Pontoon was so huge that I felt like being on a small floating island. One side lavish spread of lunch. Then a spacious sitting area. And other side snorkeling enthusiasts busy putting on snorkeling gears. Though I was all into snorkeling still I went for lunch first. Two reasons. First, snorkeling area was crowded at that time and I had to wait long for my turn. And second, as I was told that there were special vegetarian items for me so I found that tempting, too. By the time I noticed  my turn, I was through with my lunch. So a wise decision indeed.

The Great Barrier Reef in Australia, is world’s largest coral reef with enchanting beauty. As I geared up to snorkel, my heart pounded with excitement at the mere thought of exploring the world famous reef. Dedicated snorkeling experts were there to guide. One expert led me to best spots to snorkel. The experience of snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef was amazing. I was elated while gently touching and feeling remarkable corals. I considered myself fortunate that weather was favorable, as all undersea activities come to a halt in bad weather.

Within the Great Barrier Reef there are hundreds of smaller reef clusters. Reef contains numerous tropical islands and sun soaked stunning beaches. It is said that Great Barrier Reef is so mammoth that it is visible from space. Great feel for me.
