Perfect weather and perfect conditions. My zodiac cruised around serene Paradise bay in Antarctica. Scenic vistas emerged. Fascinating views of icebergs calved off from glacier, still clung to rocky mountains, looked fabulous.
More cruising through icebergs and ice floes. And then appeared the wonder world of continent Antarctica. I swirled my head and saw glaciated icebergs cast a magical spell in calm sea waters. Water surface was so still that reflections created many mystical formations. And the outcome, spectacular. Bewitched, I whispered, ‘truly paradise’. Now I could relate the feel behind naming the bay as Paradise bay. It is said that whalers in earlier times discovered this place and beauty of this area propelled them to name it Paradise.
Blue waters and blue ice with a dash of brightness in sky, such rhythmic combination is rare to experience. Weather conditions matter most in Antarctica and I considered myself fortunate to have all in favour.
My zodiac driver drove closer and lent enough time to let everyone enjoy the surroundings leisurely. More panoramic views to be captured in my camera. All the clicking done by everyone, then zodiac took a turn and cruised through ice floes. And I beamed with joy when I spotted smart Antarctic seal sleeping dreamily on an ice floe. I felt like shouting loud but in Antarctica even appreciation has to be silent and symbolic as noisy behaviour means disturbing the ecosystem of the continent.
While passing through rocks I noticed cute penguins, again. I told you earlier that Antarctica is penguin world, so do not dare to imagine any place without penguins, there.
Now the time to return to my ship, which looked impressive against stunning backdrop, when I glanced from zodiac.
Boarding and deboarding zodiac meant same instructions to be followed every time. And same routine for disinfecting then scrubbing rubber boots before and after each zodiac excursion.
Back in ship after exciting excursion ashore. Next excursion and more to relish and learn..
