Floating In Dead Sea

I had heard many interesting stories about Dead Sea, got fascinated to see me and feel me while floating in Dead Sea.

And it was about to happen when I visited Israel. I was super excited. My road journey to Dead Sea in itself was an exhilarating experience. I was traveling on highway 90 from Israel side, which passes through Dead Sea at about 393 m(1289 ft)below sea level. This stretch of road is known as the lowest road of the world, amazing! I had traveled to highest road of the world in Ladakh, India, and now the lowest road in Israel. Wow!

By afternoon I reached a Dead Sea resort on Israel side. Hurriedly changed my dress and rushed to get down in water. My wait was over. I was floating in Dead Sea, rich minerals seeping in my body and I felt lighter.

Saline levels of Dead Sea water are much higher than ocean water that turns swimming into floating. Plus, the presence of beneficial  mineral salts that makes Dead Sea so special. And floating, at least once, in Dead Sea creeps into everybody’s wish list.

Dead Sea, indeed, got curative properties.  Floating freshened me up. I rubbed black mud of Dead Sea all over my body, that is considered a beauty therapy. Here, I am telling you fact that after mud therapy when I took shower and saw myself in mirror I was indeed glowing. I thought of carrying some mud back home so that I can apply more mud, later, but that was not a practical idea. I knew that wet mud will start smelling. It needed to be dried before storing.

Dead Sea covers areas of Israel, West Bank and Jordan. Every info that I had been absorbing about Dead Sea, its floating feel and its mud therapy, turned out to be correct. But I was in for a little surprise. I had never imagined that Dead Sea is in fact a lake and not a sea. Anyway, this part of info did not lessen my curiosity and I was delighted having me floating  in Dead Sea.

It is said that due to almost  non existent aquatic life it was named as Dead Sea, in ancient times. But its therapeutic value was always well known in surrounding areas.
