Roof Of Egypt

During my second trip to Egypt, I decided to dig into the mystique of  Sinai mountains, that comprise of highest mountains of Egypt, thus, called the Roof Of Egypt.

As I caught the first glimpse of Sinai mountains, those were not anything like mighty Himalayas, well I was  expecting that. But I had, certainly, not expected such intriguing beauty of Sinai mountains. Amazing rocky formations of granite rich mountains looked like sculpted artworks. And, those art forms were getting prettier as I further traveled into high mountains of Sinai.

While traveling through mountains I saw no big settlements around, just sparsely seen Bedouin tribal communities. And, few Bedouin communities were liberal enough to let tourists experience their lifestyle.

My stay & trek destination in Sinai high mountains

My stay and trek destination was a scenic place called Fox Camp near St Katherine city. With  fabulous Sinai mountains in backdrop, staying there was a refreshing experience in itself. After check in, I had some rest, then leg stretching done, hot meal savored and ventured out to relish those brown beauties. Picturesque  valley nestled in high mountains(valley called wadi in local language), besides offering spectacular view, for me, that was a perfect example of desert eco system at high altitude.

Sinai mountains are popular among explorers and adventurers.  One peak named as Mt Sinai got spiritual significance, that spiritual part I will cover separately. There is so much to discover in Sinai region that one can spend infinite time on doing that.

Underground tunnel, Suez Canal, Egypt

Beautiful landscapes, magnificent Suez canal and that underground tunnel, my trip to Sinai mountains had been all about wonderful memories. Only thing which made me little sad was the security scenario.  There was no such concern during my first visit to Egypt. That time I used to roam around even at nights. No security concerns. But during this visit, atmosphere looked tense. Though there was no visible sign of conflict anywhere, still Egyptian security wanted to ensure  tourists’ safety and that was the reason all vehicles were allowed to move in convoy only, along with a security vehicle loaded with machine gun and other weapons. Of course, that will not dampen the spirits of explorers like me.
